The Open House is from 9am-1pm for tours of the building and a meet and greet with the staff. Free demonstrations of the Cardio Drumming will be at 10 am and 12 noon. Mrs. Wood recently received a grant to become a Certified Drums Alive Cardio Drumming Instructor and teaches cardio drumming to schools, private groups, and at Pine City Music. Wood, Owner of Pine City Music, an accomplished musician and local schoolteacher, is adding to her repertoire of music training to better reach target audiences of marginalized groups that need new ideas of how to access music and/or exercise. This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the East Central Regional Arts Council thanks to a legislative appropriation from the Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund. Call Pine City Music for more information.
Cardio Drumming is an excellent way to combine music listening, music performing, exercise, and socializing. The health benefits are great, and it is enjoyable to play along to music while doing it. Cardio Drumming can be great for those with limited movement, all the way up to those who really want a cardio workout. Participants use drum sticks to tap out rhythms to music on a yoga ball secured in a base. Yoga balls are very forgiving. You can get aggressive with the drumming, so it is very fun to put a lot of energy into the actions and movements. Students are taught basic drumming routines and locomotor body movements, and then play and move along to instructor led routines put to music. It is recommended for ages 6 and up. Cardio Drumming is heart healthy, improves sociality, fine and gross motor movements, strengthens memory retention, all while fostering music listening and appreciation.
Pine City Music was recently opened by Shannon Wood, in February of this year. Wood is a Licensed Public School Music Educator in band and choir and has occasional additional staff on hand to teach. Pine City Music offers lessons in piano, guitar, and band instruments. It also offers classes in piano, music and movement, homeschool general music, and cardio drumming. Wood has already been offering cardio drumming at both Pine City Music, and through SCRED at the Vision School in Pine City, and through the We R Able Music and Movement Series.
